-->HD batt has different terminals. HD batt POS is next to radiator.
p.136 Assembly manual: Standard battery: POS is next to fender.
(secondary cable is small red one to junction block.)
OK, here is the breakdown:
1. 2987288 is the standard V-8, primary is 44 inches long, secondary is 14 inches long, 6 gauge cable with a "WH" stamp code on the cable.
2. 2987290 is the 327 (L30, L74, and L79, plus T60) V-8, primary is 42 inches long, secondary is 24 inches long, 4 gauge cable with a "WK" stamp code on the cable. (2987293 is same cable except this is 6 guage)
3. 6286143 is the Z16 396 V-8, primary is 47 inches long, secondary is 24 inches long, 6 gauge cable with a "WV" stamp code on the cable.
*327 Cable (HD battery):
American Autowire part# 05515 - NEG (GM 2987294)
American Autowire part# 05510 - POS (GM 2987290)
The WV cable was buried in the archives and recently found (like in the last 5 years or so), and was verified to be correct using a known real Z16 Build/Broadcast sheet supplied and verified by Jeff Helms. I also checked it against 3 build sheets that came out of Ed Sharrett's collection as I have all his documentation from when I bought all the parts and a couple of the cars.
Chris Daniels
Donald Bock Jr. what do you show as neg cable part numbers? I’m seeing through gm parts book references and AIM that 2987290 WV was the assembly line T60 battery cable in 1965 and was superceded by 6286143 WV in October 1965 for 327 and 396 chevelles 1966 model year T60.

Chris Daniels You can't use parts books Chris because GM would service things, and yes, they did use some of these for 66 applications, you are correct. The database that we have is absolute as it is what Packard made and sent to the plants for the cars when new.
The 2987290 is WK, not WV. The WV cable is the 6286143 I mentioned. I'll check the drawing date on the WV cable, but I'm sure I already did due diligence on this when I found it years ago.
The WV is what really seals the deal. There was no other cable in that time period with a WV stamp coded. With Jeff's build sheets and the ones in my possession, I'm pretty confident of my findings. Now, if you can produce a build sheet with a different 2 letter code (which is entirely possible if built at a different time), I can cross-reference that back to a blueprint as well.
Chris Daniels
Donald Bock Jr. how can you determine the part numbers from the build sheet two letter code? 1965 aim T60 appears to be 2987293 as pos v8. i find no reference to this number. more to follow as I dig through my notes.
Donald Bock Jr.
Chris Daniels Because we have the GM blueprints that were used to build the cables. That was as how I found the true Z16 cable. I found that print in the Packard Allied list, pulled the print from our archives, saw the WV stamp code, surmised what I thought it was and contacted Jeff to verify the two letter code in the + battery cable box on his build sheet. That made it a positive match.
A year later, I bought most all of Ed Sharrett's parts and literature. In there was a binder with the info on his 3 Z16's that he owned and a few other build sheets as well.
Again, the WV code was in all of the positive battery cable boxes on the build sheets. I believe that the 293 cable was replaced by another cable, but I can check that tomorrow,
